Legal Aid Lines

To apply for legal assistance, residents of Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Manatee, and Sarasota counties can contact Bay Area Legal Services by calling our Legal Aid Line 813-232-1343 (Hillsborough residents) or 1-800-625-2257. Seniors who do not reside in one of the five counties may contact Bay Area by calling the Florida Senior Legal Helpline 1-888-895-7873. For more information about the Legal Aid Helplines and to determine if you are eligible for legal assistance, please review the following information:

Who is eligible?

You must be a resident of Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Manatee, or Sarasota or be referred to Bay Area by another legal services program. If you are a Florida resident, 60 or older, but you do not live in one of the five county service areas Click Here for information regarding our Senior Statewide Helpline.
You must have a civil legal issue of the type handled by Bay Area Legal Services. Bay Area cannot assist with criminal or traffic matters. Also, you must not have a conflict with a current or prior client represented by Bay Area. This means your case will not be accepted if it would create a conflict of interest for Bay Area. For example: Bay Area will not advise both a husband and wife in a divorce situation.
Your household income must be at or below 125 percent of the poverty level as established by the federal government. There are exceptions to the income guidelines. Different eligibility guidelines may apply for seniors, victims of domestic violence, or those that qualify for special programs. Be prepared to provide information and proof of your monthly income and information about your assets.

Legal Aid Line- Bay Area's Legal Aid Line is a centralized telephone intake program that screens callers seeking legal assistance and provides legal advice over the telephone to eligible residents quickly and conveniently. In addition, callers may be provided legal information by mail, referred to appropriate social services and legal self-help programs, scheduled for an office appointment at a local legal services program, and provided legal representation, if needed.

Florida Senior Legal Helpline- The Florida Senior Legal Helpline is a free statewide telephone advice and referral service for Florida residents aged 60 and older, who live outside of Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Manatee, or Sarasota counties. Through this new program, funded with grants from the Federal Administration on Aging and the Florida Deptartment of Elder Affairs, many seniors will be able to obtain answers to their civil legal questions without leaving their homes.
