Bay Area Legal Services assists clients with a wide variety of civil legal issues. For more information about specific areas of service, click the link to the right.
The type of legal help BALS can provide depends upon your legal problem and the level of support available in our region. All eligible clients receive free legal advice, which may include written materials and information about how to proceed without a lawyer. You may also be offered extended representation in your community from attorneys or paralegals from BALS (Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties); Gulfcoast Legal Services (Pinellas, Manatee, and Sarasota counties); or from private attorneys who donate their time through:
- Bay Area Volunteer Lawyers Program
- Bay Area Volunteer Lawyers Program - NW
- Community Law Program
- Legal Aid of Manasota
Nearly all applicants from our five-county service area are scheduled through the Legal Aid Line.* For details about how to apply click here.
BALS also manages the Florida Senior Legal Helpline, a free statewide telephone advice and referral service for Florida residents aged 60 and older who live outside of Hillsborough and Pasco counties. If you qualify for this program, call 1.888.895.7873, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to request an appointment. The Florida Senior Legal Helpline is funded by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and The Florida Bar Foundation.
*Applicants seeking a domestic violence injunction may be scheduled for an office appointment in their local community.
